READS: Soyinka's Bacchae (CAAS Annual Meeting, Oct. 12, 2019)
Our second READS workshop at the annual meeting of the Classical Association of the Atlantic States (CAAS) is scheduled for 10/12 in the 2:30pm slot. We have selected Noble Prize winner Wole Soyinka’s The Bacchae of Euripides: A Communion Rite (1973) for this year’s workshop series and are looking forward to discussing this rich text.
In keeping with the goals of this initiative READS workshops mimic advanced seminars. CAAS participants will have the chance to deep dive into a text, working through it as a group, in order to see how it fits into already existing courses and departmental curricula. If time permits, we will also read excerpts as a group.
Pre-registration is not required, though it is suggested, so that you can prepare the text and discussion questions ahead of time.
